Being undocumented means not having a valid residence permit and therefore no right to be in the Netherlands. Ten thousand people are undocumented in the Netherlands. Returning to their country of origin is not so easy due to political or personal circumstances. Others are no longer allowed to enter their country. Undocumented migrants are not entitled to social benefits or other basic facilities that are very common for the Dutch people. For example, they are not allowed to go to school after the age of 18, they are not allowed to work and they have no access to non-essential medical care or legal support.
